The Seven Chakras are circles that are the primary energy points in our Astral body, running from the base of our spine to the top of the head. Each Chakra is related to our physical and emotional health. When these chakras are out of balance, they can create stress, emotional imbalances, and weakness in thought, along with depression and anxiety. Once we have the Chakras balanced, there will be peace, harmony, and many health benefits.
We have been aware of Chakras since Vedic times, originating from Indian tradition, making them easy to understand for everyone. People in ancient times regarded chakras as essential for spiritual development. Through practices such as yoga, pranayama, and sound healing, balancing the chakras can help individuals achieve emotional stability.
What are The 7 Chakras?
The 7 Chakras are energy center in our bodies that bind us to the Astral World, regulating our emotional health. Each of the seven chakras has a distinct colour and distinct meaning to our health overall.

Root Chakra (Muladhara):
Situated at the base of the spine, its colour is ‘Red’, which connotes energy and strength.
When your root chakra is out of balance, it can lead to anxiety and stress, affect motivation, and create pain in the lower back. You can balance the energies in the root chakra by practising Yoga asanas such as the Mountain pose or the Child’s pose.
Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana):
The sacral chakra is situated in the lower abdomen, roughly two inches beneath the navel. This chakra carries the colour orange and represents creativity and passion.
An unbalanced sacral chakra can make a person feel emotionally unstable, lose confidence, feel stuck, and experience tightness in the lower back and hips.
Yoga poses, including the Hip-opening Pose and Cat-Cow Pose, may help to balance this chakra. Another way to balance the sacral chakra is by engaging in creativity of any kind.
Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura):
The solar plexus chakra is located in the upper abdomen area under the rib cage. The yellow colour denotes this chakra and is represents strength and confidence.
Signs of an unbalanced Solar Plexus chakra include low self-esteem, trouble making decisions, feeling helpless and like a victim, and digestive issues like bloating, gas, and weak core muscles.
Heart Chakra (Anahata)
The heart chakra is located at the centre of your chest, near your heart. The yellow colour denotes this chakra, and it represents love, compassion, and mental balance for others.
Signs of a misaligned heart chakra include volatile or trouble maintaining a relationship, feelings of isolation, unworthiness, or resentment, or trouble with breathing. Performing yoga asanas such as Camel pose or Bridge pose is a practical way to help balance out the heart chakra.
Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)
The blue colour represents the throat chakra, which lies at the centre of the throat. It symbolises clarity in communication and truthfulness.
An unbalanced throat Chakra can be either underactive or overactive. In the case of an underactive throat Chakra, you may experience difficulty expressing your thoughts, shyness, unclear speech, and physical issues such as a sore throat, neck pain, and jaw tightness.
And in case of an overactive, unbalanced chakra, you are excessively talkative, dominant in conversation, have a habit of lying, speaking harshly, are unable to listen and overthink and have physical issues like vocal strain or throat infection.
Performing yoga poses like the Fish Pose and Plough Pose, and practicing sound healing, can help address throat chakra imbalance.
Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)
The Third Eye chakra is located below the forehead and above the nose, between the eyebrows. It is denoted by the Indigo colour and signifies wisdom and spiritual awareness.
Unbalance in the third eye chakra can occur as either an underactive or overactive condition.
Signs of underactive, unbalanced Chakra are having difficulty trusting oneself, having confusion, foggy mind and issues like headache, eye strain.
And signs of overactive, unbalanced Chakra are vice versa, like living in fantasy, obsession with unreal things, having difficulty focusing and issues like migraines and vision problems.
Practising yoga poses like Downward-Facing Dog and Eagle Pose can help balance the third eye chakra.
The Crown Chakra
It is the seventh and final Chakra, located at the top of the head, and is denoted by the colour violet. It symbolises purity and divine connection.
An imbalance of the Crown chakra can be underactive or overactive. Feeling spiritually disconnected or overly obsessed, difficulty finding meaning in life, or having a sense of spiritual superiority are signs of an unbalanced crown chakra.
Yoga poses like headstand or Tree pose are beneficial for balancing the crown chakra.
How to balance these chakras
Through Yoga
Yoga is a fundamental and straightforward way to balance the chakras by creating alignment, balance, and stability in the body. Practising yoga balances the natural flow of energy in the body, giving mental clarity and improving overall well-being.
Through Sound healing
Chakras are vortexes of energy, and energy vibrates at a balanced frequency. Hearing sound with balanced vibration played by a sound healer helps balance the vibration in our body, which in turn balances the chakras.
